How to Block Websites on Chrome

Learn practical ways to control distracting websites.

Blocking distracting websites can make a browser easier to use during focused work or study. The right approach depends on whether you want to block a small number of sites or allow only a small number of sites.

Blocklist vs allowlist

A blocklist starts by allowing websites and then identifies sites to block. An allowlist starts with a restricted browser and explicitly permits the sites you need. Do Not Distracted uses the second approach.

Using an allowlist

Make a short list of websites required for the task. Other websites remain behind the lock screen.

Use a password for exceptions

When you genuinely need a site outside the list, use a password-protected unlock.

Want an allowlist-based browser?

Do Not Distracted lets you save the websites you need and keep other sites behind a password-protected lock.
